Mastermind Creations R-27 CALIDUS

Mastermind Creations R-27 Calidus. Their homage to IDW MTMTE Hot Rod / Rodimus.

Reformatted R-27 Calidus stands just over 7 inches (18cm) tall and transforms into a racing car. Calidus's energy bow can be mounted to his backpack in robot mode, and it forms the car's fender in racing car mode.

Calidus will include a bonus head and features a sound articulation system including wrist ball joint and pull-out shoulder joint which will enable him to achieve expressive poses.

Can I get a Rod-Pod?

Although not quite perfect, I love this figure. MMC have managed to capture the essence of MTMTE's fearless (Co-)Captain in plastic to a degree that I had not expected possible. In both robot and alt mode, Calidus looks like that's all he was meant to be, the engineering is wonderful. However, the transformation can be a touch finicky and it's taken me a few attempts at it to get everything tabbed into place the way it's supposed to be in car mode. My only other complaints are his weapons; the blaster is non-descript and, although a cool homage to his Animated incarnation, the bow is not the most eloquent design possible and doesn't stow very well in either mode. The best detail is the smirk on the alternate head, just enough to capture Rodimus' personality. One note about switching the heads. I had no luck popping off the default head to replace with the other. Instead, I took a screwdriver and loosened the screw in the back of his head (it splits in half) and swapped them out. I look forward to seeing what else they make from IDW (can I get a Windblade?)

Awarding this the "Rodimus Star"

I have always had a soft spot for Hot Rod and Rodimus, and tend to buy most versions of the character. This is a perfect "Lost Light" Rodimus A La MTMTE in IDW Comics. excellent articulation, looks great in both robot and alt-mode- Plus, he HAS A BOW! as an archer myself, I love this feature. Very excited to have this in my collection and highly recommended. Mastermind Creations does it again!
